LaBella’s Cottage is a 1943 cottage completely refurbished
located less than a third of a mile from Chalker Beach. We
purchased the cottage following the major renovations and
then added all of our final touches including a gas
fireplace, backyard patio and gazebo, and furnished it with
all the comforts of home including a fully equipped
kitchen. The cottage offers 3 bedrooms, 1.5 bathrooms, an
outdoor shower, living room, dining room, sitting room, and
kitchen. |

Whether you are single and looking for
an adventure, or a couple looking for a romantic get-away,
or a small family who enjoys the ocean, LaBella’s Cottage
located on Chalker Beach in Old Saybrook, Connecticut has it
all. A private, quaint year round cottage all to your self
situated a short walk down the road from beautiful Long
Island Sound and a quarter-mile of spotless, sandy private
beach. This is not your ordinary cottage as it is completely
renovated and updated- yet it still preserves the character
of an old Cape Cod cottage; featuring Belgian cherry wood
floors, a fully equipped kitchen for those who enjoy cooking
and baking while away, and all of the comforts of home. The
kitchen and dining room have fabulous beach and weekend
cookbooks, coffee, cappuccino, and espresso maker, beaters,
blender, bar area, and we include coffees, teas, creamer,
and sugars, as well as cooking herbs, spices, and fresh
ground pepper and sea salt. The dining room seats six
comfortably, plus breakfast bar. We have three bedrooms,
each with a sitting area, one queen, one double, and one
twin bed. The cottage sleeps 5 people, but can accommodate
more daytime guests, and has 1.5 bathrooms, and an outdoor
shower. Enjoy hanging out on the front porch or back patio
under the gazebo while you grill and watch the stars come
out. For cooler months or those who desire the air
conditioned indoors, this cottage offers two indoor sitting
areas: one for board games and reading (magazines, board
games, card games, and puzzles are included); the other
sitting area has a 24” flat screen TV with DVD and VCR
player, as well as a 5-CD/MP3/cassette/FM stereo to listen
to your favorite music or you may prefer to just sit in
front of the fireplace, relax and entertain a few
friends. There is also a telephone on site for local calls,
internet access, washer, dryer, iron, ironing board and hair
dryer. LaBella’s Cottage provides pillows, sheets, and
blankets, as well as towels. If you forget something, we
always have complimentary lotions and handmade soaps, and
community sunscreen and bug spray on hand for your
convenience. We even offer an equipped picnic basket for
four, and there is a shed with two bikes, or keep your own
bikes or kayaks inside. We ask that everyone abides by our
requests for no smoking or pets during their stay.
Things to do: obviously beach
combing is a must, but bike and kayak rentals are nearby to
tour the sound. If you’re into shopping, we have it
all! Enjoy Main Street Old Saybrook, or tour the outlets in
Westbrook and Clinton a few minutes away, or travel 10
minutes into the sailing village of Essex. Challenging
public golf courses are nearby, most within a 30 minute
drive. Old Saybrook offers Fenwick Golf Course located on
the point off of Long-Island Sound where the late Kathryn
Hepburn resided. Other things close by include the Essex
Steam Train and River Boat cruise where you can tour the
Connecticut River. If you prefer romance, there is the Essex
Dinner Train that will take you a step back in time with
forties style fine dining and music. This area offers
restaurants at its best, and we provide a list of many
including directions. For those looking for night life close
by, there is entertainment on the water in several nearby
locations such as the Saybrook Point Inn, Waters Edge
Resort, and the famous Griswold Inn restaurant and lounge
now offers a wine bar too. There are multiple art galleries
and antique shops in the area. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun
Casinos are within 20 minutes.
Winter months offer something special
too. Cozy up to one of the fireplaces and enjoy your
favorite cocktail or hot chocolate. Take a walk along the
beach while the snow falls lightly on the water. The
restaurants are open year round here too, as are all of the
summer attractions that have made Old Saybrook a favorite
vacation destination for generations.
